Plan de Corones
Holidays in San Lorenzo di Sebato
San Lorenzo di SebatoThe beautiful vacation village San Lorenzo di Sebato (St. Lorenzen) lies at the foot of the Plan de Corones and at the entrance of the Gardena valley at a height of 810 m above sea level. The village is defined by the remains of the erstwhile Benedictine abbey and the castles Sonnenburg and Michelsburg. Findings in the area give evidence of a continuous settlement of San Lorenzo di Sebato starting from the Stone Age. Here the Romans established the stronghold Sebatum and a Roman milestone gives proof to the Roman street going through the Val Pusteria valley. At the time, a Laurentius church must have existed, giving the resort its name. The historical village has largely been maintained around the market place. A special archaeological object lesson trail and the exhibition Antiquarium, inform the visitors on the prehistory and early history of San Lorenzo di Sebato. The Roman parish church San Lorenzo di Sebato with the magnificent “Grape Madonna“ of the famous artist of Brunico Michael Pacher is worth a visit. In the little pilgrimage church in Maria Salen you can marvel at the famous black Mother of God with baby Jesus. Trough the vicinity to the biggest mountain for skiing in South Tyrol, namely Plan de Corones, San Lorenzo di Sebato offers many skiing possibilities in winter and many hiking possibilities in summer. A ski-bus brings the tourists directly to the lifts of Plan de Corones. |
