Holidays in Laion in Valle Isarco
LaionThe beautiful holiday village Laion (Lajen) lies at 1102 m above sea level on a sunny hillside surrounded by mountain pastures and coniferous forests, high above the entrance into the Val Gardena valley. The neo-Classical parish church St. Laurentius and its excellent ceiling paintings from the artist Joseph Arnold are worth visiting. Near Novale di Laion stand the famous Vogelweide farms, it is presumed that the famous minnesinger Walther von der Vogelweide (around 1170-1230) was born in one of these farms. In the early days the old village was important because of its position on the historic Tròy Payàn, the so called pagan path that used to connect the Val Gardena valley with the Valle Isarco valley. Today this old steep track is a hiking path with a magnificent scenery onto the beautiful mountains of the Val Gardena valley. Laion is only 15 minutes away from the slopes of the Dolomiti Superski area. Every day a free ski bus departs for the Sella Ronda. |
