Holidays in Rio Pusteria in Valle Isarco
Rio PusteriaThe holiday village Rio Pusteria (Mühlbach) lies at the beginning of the famous Val Pusteria valley at 775 m above sea level and is surrounded by meadows and coniferous forests. The historical centre has a pretty market place, nice alleys, cafes and shops. The parish church St. Helena and the cemetery chapel with beautiful late-Gothic frescos of Friedrich Pacher are worth visiting. An eye-catcher is also the so called Rio Pusteria chasm, a former roadblock with a curtain wall of the 12th century. Today it has decayed, but a few years ago the main road still went through it. From Rio Pusteria a cable car takes you directly up to Maranza, a great starting point for sunny walks and hikes in the summer on one of the various walking paths or hiking trails. In winter the holiday region Gitschberg-Jochtal is a popular ski resort offering wonderful skiing holidays for the whole family, with great slopes for skiers and snowboarders and also a tobogganing/sledging run. |
