Valle Aurina - Tures
Holidays in Campo Tures
Campo TuresThe beautiful village Campo Tures (Sand in Taufers) lies in the wide basin of the village at 865 m above sea level, protected by steep mountains in the north. Due to its sunny position embedded in flat mountain pastures it is an ideal starting point for peaceful walks and hikes in the enchanting surroundings. The botanical informative nature trail “Dr. Mutschlechner“ and the adventure path are very nice, the village has a bike rental service and a natural swimming lake. In summer the ”Straßenkuchl“, the so called street kitchen, offers regional specialities and amusement in the centre. Campo Tures has also developed into a popular winter resort due to the fact that the ski resort Monte Spicco is close by. The parish church outside the village is one of the nicest Gothic churches of the country, the parish museum exhibits sacral art of the valley. The main attraction of the holiday resort is of course the castle Tures that is enthroned on a cliff in the north of the village and blocks the entrance to the Valle Aurina valley. It is one of the nicest castles in South Tyrol and belongs to the South Tyrolean castle institute. The castle buildings, namely the keep, residence tower, chapel with nice frescos of the Pacher School of Painting, the knight hall and the library with a panelled wooden ceiling can be visited in a guided tour. The Nature Park House of the Vedrette di Ries Aurina offers information on the characteristic flora and fauna of the nature park. Natural sights in the park are the three beautiful Tures waterfalls (Reinbachfälle) with the nice Francis of Assisi path. |
