Starting point

From the motorway exit Bressanone follow the road of the Val Pusteria valley to San Candido. Before the town turn right and follow the signs to the valley of Sesto. From the center of Sesto Pusteria it cross the river of Sesto and you will reach the car park of the sports zone.

The Val Fiscalina valley is one of the most beautiful valleys of the natural park "Dolomites of Sesto". On the spire of the Croda Rossa and on the ledges of Popera and Paterno, during the First World War, the Austrian Kaiserjäger fought the Italian Alpine. The testimonies of their sacrifices are still there to commemorate them.
The route provides access to the valley on forest roads alternating flat and uphill sections and along the river Fiscalino you reach a place of indescribable beauty.

Description

From the car park of the sports centre (1350 m) follow the paved cycle path that goes into meadows to the south. After the river you reach the car park of the cableway Croda Rossa (1356 m) . After a short stretch of road, turn right, then you will pass a bridge and continue on the left side of the river Fiscalino. At the crossroads turn left onto the forest road (indicating Val Fiscalina valley), paved only in the first part. After about 700 m of steep climb , the road continues, going up and down between pastures and forests of larch to the parking of Piano Fiscalino (1454 m) . Shortly after the Hotel Dolomiti begins the soil road, on which in a light and steady climb, you can reach the Rifugio Fondovalle (1548 m) . Follow the same route to return to Sesto Pusteria.
